|A Special Message from Dr. Kitty Brietzke, CEO of SAILS, COVID-19|
Dear Friends and Consumers of SAILS,
Everyone in the nation is faced with very difficult challenges and uncertainty due to the onset of the COVID 19 Pandemic and crisis. It can be a very scary time for so many of us.
San Antonio Independent Living Services (SAILS) staff continue to serve our consumers with significant disabilities and meet their needs although in a limited capacity. They have really stepped up to help SAILS consumers by providing community resources, referrals, words of encouragement and support. Although our offices are physically closed some of SAILS staff continue to work on-site contacting their consumers and providing services while other staff are working remotely. Staff are following CDC guidelines by washing their hands and practicing social distancing. Masks are encouraged at work and recommended to be worn in any public outing.
I am honored to be the Chief Executive Officer of SAILS and lead such a dedicated and passionate group of people who are striving to make the lives of so many people with disabilities better during these unprecedented days. My “hat goes off to them” and all the workers on the front- line serving people to keep them safe and well. For more information please call 210-281-1878 for your IL Specialist who will schedule a remote appointment with you. Please also visit our website at sailstx.org.
Kitty L. Brietzke, J.D.
Chief Executive Officer
To advocate for the rights and empowerment of the people with disABILITIES and to provide needed services to people with disABILITIES in order to increase their self-determination and independence
Since 1981, SAILS has worked to make San Antonio and the surrounding counties a better place to live, work and play for people with disABILITIES.
People with disABILITIES have the right to be treated with dignity and respect; the right to live and receive services in their own homes, and to decide for themselves what is the best for them.
Independent Living is different from other social services in that people with disABILITIES decide what services are needed and the best way to receive those services. This allows individuals more control over their own lives and leads to independence.
